Of course, you can add slide numbers manually in all your slides, but it can be frustrating if you have a long presentation and want to make changes to them as you need to update the page numbers manually every time you update or modify the slides.
To avoid this problem, all you can do is adding slides number automatically. Hence, the next time you make changes in your presentation, slide numbers update automatically without the hassle of changing them manually.

Here are the two ways to add PowerPoint slide number total automatic.
Add Slide Numbers In PowerPoint In 2 Steps Only
1st Step: Once you open your PowerPoint presentation, click on INSERT and click on Slide Number.

This will open the Header and Footer tab. You can see a check box Slide in the Slide pane, as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Check this box and click on Apply to all to add slide numbers to all slides. If you want to exclude the title slide from page number, check the box Don’t show on title slide.

Now you can see slide numbers are added to the slides, as shown in the image below.

How To Insert Page Number In PowerPoint Slide Master
With the above method, slide numbers can only be added to the slide’s footer. The above method doesn’t allow you to change the slide number position. And if you want to do so, the best option is to add slide number with PowerPoint slide master.
Firstly click on VIEW and then click on Slide Master.

It will option the slide master tab. Now select the parent slide on the top left. This will be the first and largest slide listed on the left side of your screen. And click on the Master Layout.

It will open the Master Layout pane. From here, you can select and add pretty much all placeholders in your slides, including the slide number. But, first, check the Slide number checkbox.

On the bottom right, write the page/slide number, which is 1.

Now you can drag it to where you want to show the slide number. For example, I have placed the slide number on the top right of my slides, as shown in the image below. When you have placed it in your desired position, click on Close Master View.

Now again, click on INSERT and then click on Slide Number. Check the Slide number check box. In the preview, you can see the slide number position. Finally, click on Apply to all.

This will insert the slide number on your desired position, as you can see in the image below.

How To Remove Slide Number In Powerpoint Slides
To remove slide numbers from PowerPoint slides, click on Insert > slide number. When the Header and Footer pane opens, uncheck the slide number option under the Slide section below.
