PM Free Laptop Distribution Strategy

The laptop distribution strategy and selection criteria for the PM Laptop Scheme 2024 are as follows:

  1. Online Application and Filtering: Students are required to submit their applications online through the HEC (Higher Education Commission) online portal before the specified deadline. The system will then filter and categorize the applicants into eligible and ineligible students based on the provided information.
  2. Verification Process: The Focal Person of the relevant department at the university will verify the student’s data through their online focal person account. This verification includes checking the student’s name, CNIC, department, degree level, and last exam percentage or CGPA. The responsibility of verification lies with the university’s Focal Person.
  3. Data Amendment: If any discrepancies are found in the student’s data, the Focal Person can update or edit the student’s information after obtaining records from the institute or the students themselves. Corrections and amendments are made within a specified timeline.
  4. Laptops Allocation: Each institute will receive a designated quota of laptops based on predefined eligibility and merit criteria. The allocation is determined by the institute’s share.
  5. Merit List Generation: Once the verification deadline from HEC has passed, an automated process runs to generate merit lists for each university. HEC shares the provisional merit list with the institutes for cross-checking. Institutes have 15 days to review and respond with any discrepancies they identify.
  6. Final Merit List: After addressing any discrepancies from the provisional merit list, HEC shares the final merit list with the institutes. It is then the responsibility of each institute to display the final merit list on their notice board, website, or social media platforms, along with a distribution timeline.
  7. Online Publication of Merit Lists: The final merit lists are also published on an online portal, accessible to both students and the general public. This allows individuals to view the merit status of each student.

Following these steps ensures a transparent and systematic process for laptop distribution, based on eligibility and merit criteria.

Laptop Distribution Criteria

The distribution criteria for the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme 2024 have been defined as follows:

  1. Merit-Based Distribution: Laptops will be distributed solely based on merit in each degree program, including Ph.D., MS/M.Phil., and 16 years of education. Merit will be determined based on specific criteria.
  2. Quota Allocation: The share of laptops for each university will be determined based on the university’s enrollment. Additionally, the laptop quota will be allocated for each degree program, campus, department, and years of education.
  3. Quota for Balochistan HEIs: As per the directives from the Prime Minister’s office, a specific quota of 14% (14,000 laptops) has been allocated for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Balochistan. This allocation is intended to accommodate students from accredited universities in Balochistan.
  4. Allocation among Public Sector HEIs: The remaining 86,000 laptops will be allocated among public sector Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) based on their enrollment preferences. The distribution will be done considering the number of students and their respective programs.

By following these distribution criteria, laptops will be allocated in a fair and equitable manner, ensuring that deserving students across different degree programs and regions have the opportunity to benefit from the scheme.
