Pakistan is an energy-starved country and has been grappling with a worsening power crisis for years. The country has been trying to find ways to reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels, and one way it has done this is by promoting the use of compressed natural gas (CNG).
CNG is a cleaner and cheaper alternative to petrol and diesel, and the Pakistani government has been offering subsidies to encourage people to switch to it.
Prices of CNG in Pakistan Today
The price of CNG (compressed natural gas) in Pakistan has seen a sharp increase in recent months, causing many consumers to switch back to using petrol or diesel.
The current price of CNG in Region-I (Baluchistan, KPK, Potohar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujar Khan) Rs. 200/Kg per kg, and CNG price in CNG Region-II (Sindh and Punjab excluding Potohar region) is Rs. 200/Kg.
The main reason for the price hike has been the increase in global crude oil prices, which have risen from around $50 per barrel at the end of 2016 to over $70 per barrel currently.
This has led to an increase in the cost of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is used to produce CNG. In addition, the Pakistani government has also imposed a new tax on CNG sales, further pushing up prices.
