After a two-hour outage affected its social media applications, Meta said the problem with all apps had been “fixed” in the early hours of Saturday.
The outage affected thousands of users around the world and around 20,000 complained of difficulty accessing Facebook and Instagram and using Meta’s messaging service WhatsApp.
Even in Pakistan, the platforms were not functioning properly until around midnight around 3:00 am.
An outage tracking website, Downdetector.com, recorded that applications were down within hours, with 49% of users struggling to send messages on WhatsApp, 32% unable to send voice notes, while applications 19 was not working at all. %
Meanwhile, 42% of Instagram users had trouble using the app, 35% couldn’t log in, while 23% couldn’t load their website. At least 46% of Facebook users were unable to log into the app, 34% could not access its website and 20% experienced server connection issues.
According to outage reports ReutersBy 22:30 GMT, it had dropped to less than 500, according to Downdetector.
Around 1:45 a.m., Meta took to Twitter and wrote: “We know some of you are experiencing issues with our apps today. We’re working to get things back to normal as soon as possible. . Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you. Your patience.”
At 4:26 am, it announced that the issue had been resolved.
“Fixed! The issue has been resolved and things should work normally in our apps. Thanks again for your patience,” Meta tweeted.
META, however, did not give any reason behind the outage.
Downdetector tracks outages by aggregating status reports from multiple sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform. The outage could affect a large number of users.
Issues with Meta’s Ads Manager, the advertising tool that lets brands buy and create Facebook ads, were also fixed, the company said.
